Outdoor adventure ethusiasts are readying for the Red Dirt Mountainbike festival set to be held between May 4 and 6 at Lakeside Adventure Park near Kampala.

Organizers say the festival, the 6th of its kind will be an exciting weekend full of activities for young and old, Ugandans and internationals, beginners and experts.

The festival kicks off tomorrow, Friday evening with a night ride followed by a variety of activities including outdoor sport, cycling and an obstacle course come Saturday.

Participants will also take part in various other outdoor activities such as rope courses, climbing, kayaking, hiking, running and other family activities.

Sunday will feature the much anticipated mountain bike race where everybody get to show off their biking skills.

“Gather your friends and family and come spend the weekend at the Red Dirt Mountain bike and Outdoor Festival. Make sure you don’t miss this amazing event and book your early bird tickets at a discounted rate,” organizers, Red Dirt said in a statement.

They say proceeds from the event will be used to support a talented young cyclist, Hadija Nazziwa who is financially needy.

“Nazziwa is seen as one of the most promising Ugandan athletes who dreams of becoming a champion,” added the statement.

Twelve year old Nazziwa has more than once ended on the podium of several national races and she aspires to become a strong international cyclist and participate in the Olympic Games.

However, disaster struck when her farther passed away in an accident last year. This loss pushed her on the edge with both emotional stress and economical instability.

“Her hope to be a recognized athlete one day went up in smoke since even paying school fees is a challenge now. By providing school fees, a bike and bicycle equipment we offer her the basic tools that are required to make her dream come true”.

According to organizers, with the right training and support, Nazziwa stands a chance to become a worldclass cyclist and make her dream come through.
