Army Protests Kitatta’s Bail Application

The UPDF has objected to the bail application by Boda Boda 2010 patron, Abdallah Kitatta. Kitatta recently applied to be released on bail in the General Court Martial at Makindye.

However, the state prosecutors including Maj Raphael Mugisha and Lt Ambrose Baguma on Monday asked court not to release the suspect on bail in grounds that he would interfere with the progress of the case.

“Being an influential person, he can interfere with witnesses if released on bail,” Lt Baguma told court.

The army lawyers warned court against releasing Kitatta on bail because the offence against him is capital in nature .

The prosecutors also downplayed the argument that the suspect is sickly, saying there is no evidence to this.

On the sureties, the prosection side said Hajji Muhammad Nabugoba who was presented as Kitatta’s father is not substantial because he could not tell court Kitatta’s age and date of birth.

The state prosecutors asked court not to release Kitatta.

Kitatta is accused together with Boda boda 2010 members including; Matia Ssenfuka, Joel Kibirige, Hassan Ssemata, Jonathan Kayondo, Ssengooba Hassan, Sande Ssemwogerere, John Ssebandeke, Hussein Mugema, Fred Bwanika and Amon Twinomujuni for a number of offences related to unlawful possession of military hardware and ammunition.

The court chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Guti set May 7, 2018 as the date to deliver its ruling on the bail application by Kitatta.
