President Yoweri Museveni who is currently in the U.K to attend the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London has held meetings with British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson and India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Museveni held bilateral talks with Boris Johnson and the two leaders had “a productive meeting” about strengthening the relationship between the U.K and Uganda, according to a State House statement.

Both leaders agreed to cooperate in tackling regional problems together.

Still on the sidelines of CHOGM meetings, President Museveni held a meeting with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the two discussed bilateral issues between the two countries.

Museveni arrived in London on Monday and is joining several other Heads of State and Ministers from 53 countries that make up the Commonwealth countries. Many of these are countries that were once British colonies.

Earlier, U.K Prime Minister, Theresa May personally welcomed Museveni at the Buckingham Palace for the official opening of CHOGM and later at St. James Palace.

The President alongside other Commonwealth leaders was hosted to a reception by Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth at the St. James Palace. The leaders were later hosted to a grand dinner by Her Majesty the Queen at the Ballroom, Buckingham Palace.

On Friday, Museveni joined other Heads of State for a retreat at the Windsor Castle and was later scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta.

CHOGM which in 2007 was hosted in Uganda is held every two years to enable leaders of the commonwealth countries come together to discuss global and commonwealth issues, and decide on collective policies and initiatives.

While speaking at the opening session, the U.K Prime Minister Theresa May said this year’s CHOGM was an opportunity for the different countries to share perspectives and finding ways to make a real difference to people’s lives

“I think I speak for everyone around the room when I say that we have all been inspired by what we’ve seen and heard, particularly from our young people,” she said.
