KAMPALA — Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has donated a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser pickup to the Uganda Media Centre (UMC) following an accident involving two of the Centre’s staff while on official duty.
The vehicle was handed over to UMC Executive Director Alan Kasujja on Sunday, September 20, by Acting Director of Defence Public Information Col Chris Magezi on behalf of Gen Muhoozi.
According to Kasujja, the donation followed a meeting with Gen Muhoozi during which he raised the need for a replacement vehicle after the accident involving UMC staff members travelling on assignment.
Kasujja said the response was immediate, with the new vehicle arriving less than two hours after the meeting. “Less than two hours after we parted ways, a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser arrived to support our work,” Kasujja said.
He said the two staff members involved in the accident, identified as Glen and Michael, were doing well.
Kasujja thanked Gen Muhoozi and the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs for the support, saying the vehicle would strengthen UMC’s ability to undertake field assignments, particularly long-distance travel across the country.
“We are grateful to the Chief of Defence Forces for this donation. This pickup will go a long way in boosting our operations, especially when we have to travel long distances across the country,” Kasujja said.
Magezi Highlights Inter-Agency Cooperation
Col Magezi said the donation reflected cooperation between government institutions aimed at improving service delivery.
“The CDF has donated this brand new utility vehicle to Uganda Media Centre to support their operations across the country. This is part of the continued inter-agency cooperation to enhance service delivery,” Magezi said.
He added that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces remains committed to supporting other government agencies in carrying out their mandates.
The donation is expected to increase UMC’s capacity to travel across Uganda to cover government programmes and activities and communicate government policies to the public.
The Centre operates under the “One Government. One Voice” communication approach, which seeks to coordinate government communication and provide information on government programmes and initiatives.
The vehicle was handed over a day after the reported accident involving UMC staff travelling to Rujumbura in Rukungiri District for official duty.
The donation adds to recent cooperation between Gen Muhoozi and the Uganda Media Centre. In April, UMC Executive Director Alan Kasujja announced the CDF’s 52nd Birthday Run, describing it as a civic engagement and charity initiative.
