KAMPALA — The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) will hold the 2026 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards and its second Research Conference as part of efforts to promote better financial reporting, sustainability and research in Uganda’s accountancy sector.

ICPAU President CPA David Timothy Ediomu announced the upcoming events on Monday during the release of the August 2026 CPA examination results at Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz in Naguru.

The 2026 FiRe Awards, organised in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Securities Exchange and Vision Group, will be held under the theme “Driving Transparent Sustainability Reporting through Technology and Innovation.”

Ediomu said the awards provide a platform for organisations to demonstrate how they are adapting their reporting practices and improving the quality and relevance of sustainability reporting.

Since their inception in 2011, more than 1,000 organisations have participated in the FiRe Awards, benefiting from benchmarking, professional feedback and national recognition.

Participation is free, and organisations have until September 30, 2026, to submit their entries.

Eligible organisations can submit their entries online through the ICPAU website or deliver three printed copies of their most recent annual report to the Institute’s offices.

Ediomu encouraged organisations across the public, private and non-profit sectors to participate in the awards.

ICPAU to unveil two research studies

ICPAU will also hold its second Research Conference on November 12, 2026, under the theme “Accountancy at the Forefront: Driving Sustainability and Uganda’s Economic Transformation.”

The conference will feature the release of findings from two studies commissioned by the Institute.

The first research examines corporate readiness for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting in Uganda, while the second assesses the readiness of Chief Finance Officers in Uganda for emerging professional competency demands.

Ediomu said the conference would also provide a platform for accountancy researchers to present findings from their studies.

ICPAU is currently inviting abstracts from researchers working on areas including sustainability and ESG reporting, public finance management and accountability, digital transformation and innovation, taxation, governance and financial integrity.

Researchers whose abstracts are selected will have an opportunity to present their findings at the conference.

The announcement comes as ICPAU released the results of the August 2026 CPA examinations, in which 4,675 candidates sat the examinations and 2,281 scripts recorded passes, giving an overall pass rate of 34 percent.

A total of 130 students completed the CPA(U) course during the August examination diet, bringing the cumulative number of students who have completed the qualification to 5,806.

Ediomu urged the finalists to proceed with their membership enrolment and continue developing their professional skills.

He also encouraged candidates who did not attain their expected results to use the December 2026 examination diet as another opportunity to complete the qualification.
