Lugogo — Manchester United’s surprise 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City became the talking point at Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda’s English Premier League watch party at Millennium Park in Kampala on Saturday.
Football fans gathered at the venue to watch the opening weekend action as part of Coca-Cola’s five-game EPL viewing experience, but the early kick-off delivered a result few Manchester United supporters expected.

Hull City, playing their first Premier League match in nine years, stunned United by taking a 2-0 lead before halftime and eventually holding on for victory.
Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda captured the mood at Millennium Park throughout the match, first announcing the fixture as the opening game of its five-match watch party before reporting Hull City’s early breakthrough.

“Manchester United are trailing against Hull City in the early kick-off!” the company posted as the match unfolded.
By halftime, the mood had shifted dramatically.

“HT: Hull City 2:0 Man United,” Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda posted, describing Hull’s first-half performance as an unexpected result.
The disappointment among United supporters was evident at the venue, with the organiser later sharing images of fans watching anxiously as their team struggled to respond.

“The faces say it all. Pure concentration… and a little heartbreak especially when your team is losing, but you still have hope.”
The defeat did little to dampen the atmosphere at Millennium Park. Rain also failed to stop the gathering, with fans remaining at the venue for the next games on the EPL schedule.

“Not even the rain could stop us. The game must go on!”
The watch party combined football with live entertainment, with Ugandan singer Karole Kasita performing for fans during the event.
“What a performance! Karole Kasita is such a vibe,” the company said after her appearance.

The event formed part of Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda’s wider “Essaawa Yonna” campaign, which encourages football fans to experience Premier League matches together at public viewing events.
The reaction extended beyond Millennium Park, with Galaxy FM joking about the mood among United supporters following the defeat.
“All Manchester United fans want now is a cold Coca-Cola,” the radio station posted.

For the fans who had gathered expecting the familiar drama of Premier League football, the afternoon offered something different: a reminder that football has little respect for reputation.
Manchester United arrived with the bigger name. Hull City had the better story.
And, for one Saturday afternoon in Kampala, that was enough.
