The Uganda Vocational Technical Assessment Board [UVTAB] has registered 55,788 candidates for the July/August 2026 assessment series, in accordance with Section 79(1)(b) of the TVET Act No.3 of 2025. The candidates will sit for assessments at 427 centres across the country.
The assessment commenced on August 7, 2026 with a briefing of candidates and will run until August 2026 21. Of the total registered, 16,831 are female and 38,957 are male.
According to UVTAB Executive Secretary, Onesmus Oyesigye, the Board also registered 153 candidates with special needs pursuing various TVET qualifications.
The categories include hearing impairment, physical disability, visual impairment, amputees, chronic illnesses such as asthma, sickle cells and diabetes, epilepsy, and intellectual impairment.
“The special needs candidates have been provided with over 150 support personnel to assist during the conduct of assessments. These include sign language interpreters, transcribers, and guides. Other candidates will be granted extra time in accordance with assessment regulations,” he said.
Oyesigye noted that candidates will be assessed in their respective Competence-Based programmes for National Certificate [Level 3] and Community Polytechnic Certificate [Level 2].
In a major development, UVTAB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Uganda Prisons Service to assess and certify the competences of inmates.
“It is important to recognize that UVTAB’s assessment and certification will form part of the constructive rehabilitation of inmates by recognizing and awarding their skills to enable them to engage in productive activities,” Oyesigye said.
He added that UVTAB’s role is critical in transforming inmates into productive citizens. He applauded Uganda Prisons Service for its commitment to offering hands-on technical and vocational training to enable inmates to re-enter society as capable and economically active individuals.
In line with UVTAB assessment procedures, the Board has also conducted briefings for Area Coordinators and Centre Supervisors countrywide.
Onesmus appealed to all Heads of Centres to appoint Assessment Task Forces to work closely with UVTAB Assessment Managers to ensure smooth conduct of the assessments.
A total of 650 scouts have been deployed to ensure assessments are conducted in accordance with UVTAB regulations and to minimize offences stipulated in Sections 101-108 of the TVET Act No.3 of 2025.
In addition, over 3,500 practical assessors will be deployed to conduct on-the-spot practical assessments.
The delivery of all assessment materials to designated storage facilities across the country commenced on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with support from the Uganda Police Force.
The Board has warned candidates and the public against involvement in any form of assessment malpractice, noting that offenders will face severe penalties under the law.
