KAMPALA — Uganda’s rising table tennis star Patience Anyango has claimed continental glory after being crowned the Under-15 Girls’ Singles champion at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships held in Accra, Ghana.
Anyango defeated Tunisia’s Ela Saidi in the final to secure the title, delivering one of Uganda’s biggest achievements in junior table tennis on the African stage.
The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) celebrated the young athlete’s triumph, describing it as a proud moment for Ugandan sport.
“Uganda’s Patience Anyango has been crowned the U15 Girls’ Singles champion at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Accra, Ghana, after defeating Tunisia’s Ela Saidi in the final,” the committee announced.
The victory capped an impressive campaign for Anyango, who battled through a strong field featuring some of Africa’s best young table tennis players.
Her performance adds to Uganda’s growing success in developing young talent in table tennis, a sport that has increasingly gained attention through investment in grassroots programmes and international youth competitions.
The ITTF Africa Youth Championships bring together emerging players from across the continent, providing a platform for young athletes to compete at the highest junior level while building experience for future international competitions.
Anyango’s success is expected to inspire a new generation of Ugandan table tennis players and strengthen the country’s presence in continental competitions.
The achievement comes at a time when Uganda’s young athletes are making their mark across different sporting disciplines, with recent successes including para swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe’s historic Commonwealth Games medal and strong performances by junior athletes on international stages.
