Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi in Kigali to discuss expanding basketball in Uganda.
The engagement follows an earlier meeting held in Uganda in March which explored a partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports to establish a Junior NBA League aimed at nurturing young talent while advancing teamwork, discipline, leadership and work ethic.

The proposed programme aligns with NBA Africa’s wider continental strategy to partner with governments and the private sector in sports infrastructure, digital innovation, creative industries, and hospitality.
Ugandan clubs City Oilers and Namuwongo Blazers have already competed in the NBA-backed Basketball Africa League, while UBC and NBS are set to begin broadcasting NBA games in Uganda from September.
