KAMPALA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has honoured Ms Margaret Awino Kafeero, the outgoing Head of Public Diplomacy, for her contribution to strengthening Uganda’s international image and public diplomacy agenda.
Kafeero was recognised during a farewell ceremony attended by colleagues, friends and family as she prepares to take up a new diplomatic assignment at the Uganda Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Ministry described her tenure at headquarters as one marked by professionalism, leadership and commitment to advancing Uganda’s foreign policy objectives.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrated the distinguished service of Ms Margaret Kafeero, outgoing Head of Public Diplomacy, whose leadership, professionalism, and commitment strengthened Uganda’s public diplomacy agenda,” the Ministry said.

During the farewell event, Kafeero appreciated her colleagues for their support and teamwork, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving institutional goals.
“At her farewell ceremony, Ms Margaret Kafeero paid tribute to colleagues whose dedication and teamwork contributed to the achievements of the Public Diplomacy Department,” the Ministry said.
She described the team approach to diplomacy as essential, noting that every individual plays a role in achieving collective success. “A team is like a jigsaw puzzle; every piece matters,” she said.
Kafeero later expressed excitement about her new posting, saying she was looking forward to the next chapter of her diplomatic career.

“As my stint at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters comes to a close, I am gearing up for my next assignment. I am pleased to announce that I have been assigned to the Uganda Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa. Who is in Addis, please holler! Here’s to new beginnings!” she wrote.
The Ministry’s Under-Secretary, Mr Stephen Kyaterekera, commended Kafeero’s service, describing her as a professional leader who leaves behind a strong foundation of excellence within the Public Diplomacy Department.
“Mr Stephen Kyaterekera, the Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commended her professionalism, leadership, and commitment, noting that she leaves behind a strong foundation of excellence as she takes on her new diplomatic assignment in Addis Ababa,” the Ministry stated.

Kafeero’s new role at the Uganda Mission to the African Union places her at the centre of Uganda’s engagement with continental institutions and regional diplomatic initiatives.
The Ministry said her transition reflects Uganda’s continued investment in experienced diplomats to promote the country’s interests and strengthen its representation abroad.
