The government chief whip who is also Kiboga district woman MP, Ruth Nankabirwa survived an incident after a helicopter she was flying aboard was forced to make an emergency landing.
The incident occurred on Friday in Kabale district.
Nankabirwa together with the woman MP for Rukiga district, Kamusiime Caroline and other women councillors from Kiboga district were in Kabale to attend the celebrations to mark women’s day at Karujanga in the border town of Katuna.
Police say that at around 5:45pm, a white chopper, Reg No 5X – KEG which belongs to Kampala Executive Aviation had just taken off from Makanga golf course in Kabale municipality.
However, mid air, after about two hundred meters from the ground, the rotors got intercepted by electric wires forcing the two pilots; Chris De Wit and Rowon MCharry (co-pilot) to make an emergency landing. The legislators and councillors were enroute to Kampala before they were forced to cancel the flight.
The Regional Police Spokesperson for Kigezi, Elly Matte said that none of the nine people on board chopper sustained any injuries.
But the helicopter was slightly damaged on the left side by electric wires.
