The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commissioned a new fleet of Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force aircraft, advancing the military’s modernisation drive.
The fleet includes a Let L-410 transport aircraft designed to improve logistics and the movement of personnel and supplies. The multi-role aircraft can operate as an air ambulance, passenger or VIP transport, cargo carrier, and paratrooper platform.
Gen Kainerugaba urged the Air Force to maintain the aircraft to the highest standards and thanked Czech defence company OMNIPOL for delivering the aircraft two months ahead of schedule.
The commissioning was attended by Air Force Commander Lt Gen Charles Okidi, the Chief of Staff Air Force, and an OMNIPOL delegation led by Chairman Ondrej Panenka, alongside Valentin and Humphrey Nzeyi.
The acquisition strengthens Uganda’s air mobility and defence capabilities while deepening cooperation with international partners.
