KAMPALA — Uganda has once again honoured leading environmental innovators as the National Environment Management Authority hosted the 3rd Edition of the National Environment Sustainability Awards (NESA) 2026 at Serena Hotel Kampala, under the theme “Innovation for Climate Resilience.”
The annual awards recognised individuals, institutions, companies, and communities driving impactful solutions in environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development across the country.
This year’s event highlighted achievements in circular economy innovation, green education initiatives, climate-smart agriculture, biodiversity conservation, environmental journalism, pollution control technologies, low-carbon development, green manufacturing, climate finance, fragile ecosystem protection, and community-based climate resilience programs.
The Minister of Water and Environment, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Kahinda Otafiire served as Chief Guest, while the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Dr Michael Atingi-Ego, delivered the keynote address. The ceremony brought together stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, civil society, media, and local communities.
Winners were selected through a rigorous evaluation process involving independent experts, field verification exercises, due diligence checks, and assessment against established environmental sustainability criteria.
The awards continue to position Uganda as a regional leader in climate action by promoting innovation, strengthening partnerships, and encouraging compliance with environmental laws and standards.
Partners supporting this year’s edition included PepsiCo, Bank of Uganda, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Rosebud Ltd, and Stanbic Bank Uganda.
NEMA congratulated all nominees and finalists for their contributions to advancing environmental sustainability in Uganda.
