One Young World (OYW) Uganda Chapter has officially been launched at Kampala Serena Hotel. The event attracted a mix of young leaders, government officials, and diplomats, all united around discussions on youth leadership, innovation and ethical governance.
The event marked the official entry of the global youth leadership organisation into Uganda, with organisers saying the chapter will help connect young Ugandans to international networks, mentorship opportunities, and global policy discussions.
In his keynote address, Henry Lutwama encouraged young people to pursue innovation and ambition while remaining grounded in values and integrity.
“As leaders, we must remain grounded in values and faith,” he said.
Lutwama told the audience that modern leadership is increasingly shaped by creativity, innovation and the ability to compete globally.
“The future does not belong to the strongest nations alone. It belongs to the boldest thinkers and the bravest innovators,” he said.
He further urged young Ugandans to adopt a mindset of “thinking global and impacting local,” explaining President Museveni’s philosophy that exposure to international ideas and experiences should eventually translate into practical solutions for local communities.
He contributed $1,000 towards supporting the chapter’s initial activities.
The event also featured remarks from Justice Anne Jane Okuo Kajugo, Deputy Head of the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court, who presided as Chief Guest. She challenged young leaders to reject corruption and embrace responsible leadership.
One Young World Uganda Chapter chairman Ayebare Denis said the new chapter will serve as a bridge connecting Ugandan youth to regional and global opportunities.
“Young people must take up every available opportunity and always dream big,” Ayebare said.
Founded in London, One Young World is an international youth leadership organisation that convenes annual summits bringing together young leaders from at least 190 countries and 250 organisations, to discuss global challenges and social impact initiatives.
This year’s summit will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, with discussions expected to focus on issues such as artificial intelligence, food security, climate action and Africa’s future development.
