KAMPALA — The Board of Directors of Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has appointed Eng. Joselynne Rwabwogo Rwakakooko as the Acting Managing Director, effective May 2, 2026, marking a key leadership transition at the state-owned utility.
In an official communication, the Board confirmed the appointment, noting that Eng. Rwakakooko will steer the company during a period of heightened focus on improving electricity distribution efficiency and expanding access across the country.
“The Board of Directors has appointed Eng. Joselynne Rwabwogo Rwakakooko as Acting Managing Director effective May 2, 2026,” the company said in a statement.
Eng. Rwakakooko assumes the role at a critical time for Uganda’s energy sector, with ongoing national efforts to enhance grid reliability, reduce power losses, and extend electricity connectivity to rural and underserved communities.
UEDCL plays a central role in Uganda’s electricity value chain, particularly in the management and maintenance of distribution infrastructure. The company operates across multiple service territories and is headquartered at UEDCL Tower on Nakasero Road in Kampala.
Energy sector observers say the appointment of an engineer to the top position signals continuity and a technical approach to leadership. “Placing an experienced engineer in this role underscores the importance of technical expertise in managing distribution networks and delivering a reliable power supply,” an energy sector analyst noted.
As Acting Managing Director, Eng. Rwakakooko is expected to oversee strategic operations, including asset management, network maintenance, and implementation of government electrification programmes aligned with national development priorities.
The leadership change comes as Uganda intensifies efforts to achieve universal electricity access and support industrial growth through a more stable and efficient power distribution system.
