Government officials on Thursday, 30th April 2026, conducted a joint visit to the Busia and Malaba border posts to assess and improve the efficiency of clearing fuel trucks for the importation and distribution of petroleum products into Uganda.

The visit follows earlier high-level engagements with key stakeholders, including a Cabinet meeting held on Monday, 27th April 2026, where the Hon. Minister of Energy and Mineral Development presented an update on the country’s bulk petroleum products supply.

The delegation was led by the UNOC Chief Executive Officer alongside the URA Assistant Commissioner for Customs, and included representatives from the Petroleum Supply Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

The team assessed critical processes such as customs clearance, fuel marking, and biofuel blending of petrol.

The primary objective of the visit was to identify areas for improvement to enhance operational efficiency and eliminate bottlenecks that delay the clearance of fuel trucks entering the country.

Engagements with stakeholders and service providers, including the URA Customs Team, UNBS, SICPA (fuel marking), and biofuel blending service providers, resulted in agreed actions and timelines to address the identified challenges.

These interventions are expected to improve turnaround times for fuel truck clearance, support the timely delivery of petroleum products, and strengthen stock availability and distribution across the country.
