The Public Relations Association of Uganda has marked a major milestone after successfully holding its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM), signalling a renewed focus on innovation and professional excellence in Uganda’s communications industry.

The AGM, held at Hotel Africana on April 11, 2026, brought together members to reflect on the association’s journey and chart a forward-looking path.

A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of PRAU’s Digital Membership Identification cards, a new system aimed at improving accessibility, engagement, and service delivery to members. The digital IDs will allow practitioners to conveniently access their credentials, participate in association activities, and securely verify their professional status.

Speaking at the AGM, PRAU President Irene Nakasiita thanked members for their continued support, crediting them for the association’s growth over the years.

“I would like to sincerely thank all our members for supporting PRAU from time to time. Your dedication has enabled both past and current Governing Councils to effectively serve and implement various activities that continue to champion PR Excellence in Uganda,” she said.

Nakasiita emphasised that the introduction of digital IDs reflects PRAU’s commitment to embracing innovation in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

She noted that the system is designed not only to streamline membership management but also to align the association with global trends in digital transformation.

The AGM also served as a platform to review PRAU’s performance over the past year, with members highlighting achievements in professional development programmes, industry partnerships, and advocacy efforts aimed at raising standards in public relations practice.

Participants engaged in discussions on how the association can strengthen its position as a leading voice in Uganda’s communications sector.

Looking ahead, the Governing Council outlined key priorities, including celebrations to mark PRAU’s 50-year milestone, expanding membership, enhancing training opportunities, and leveraging technology to better serve members.

The launch of the digital IDs was widely welcomed by members, who cited its convenience, efficiency, and inclusivity, particularly with features designed to cater to different user preferences.

As it marks five decades of existence, PRAU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering ethical practice, professional growth, and collaboration, positioning itself as a central player in shaping the future of public relations in Uganda.
