The Ugandan football champions KCCA FC have Wednesday evening been drawn in Group A of the CAF champions league group stages alongside record eight time African Champions, Egyptian superclub Al Ahly, two time African Champions Esperance of Tunisia and Ivan Ntege’s Township rollers from Botswana.

Both KCCA FC and Township rollers FC are appearing at this stage for the first time but have been drawn against the highly experienced two sides from Tunisia and Egypt, in an event held in Egypt on Wednesday evening.

The Kasasiro boys will play their opener against the Southern Africa side between May 4 – 6 before hosting Al Ahly of Egypt at the StarTimes Stadium between May 15 -16.

Thereafter, Mike Mutebi’s side will travel to North Africa to face Esperance of Tunisia between July 17-18, before hosting the Tunisians between July 27-29 in a return leg.

The Ugandans will proceed to play the blues of Botswana in Kampala between August 17-19 and then complete their group stage phase away from home against Alhly on August 28-29.

According to Township rollers FC coach Nikola Kavazovic, KCCA FC and his side have very minimal chances of vamping out of the group.

“It could be worse, it could be better. Al Ahly is the favorite in our group, while Esperance is second favourite. Us and KCCA will search our chances as underdogs,” Kavazovic said after the draws.

Our efforts to reach KCCA FC couch Mike Mutebi for a comment on the draws were futile since he was not picking our telephone calls.

KCCA is Uganda’s first club to reach the CAF champions league group stages, having eliminated St George FC of Ethiopia and CNaPs united of Madagascar.

KCCA FC are already assured of USD 555,000 (Shs 2 billion) and will get more depending on how they perform in the group.
