His Excellency Vladlen Semivolos, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uganda, has officially concluded his tour of duty and today paid a farewell courtesy call on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Okello Oryem.
During the meeting, Hon. Oryem commended Ambassador Semivolos for his distinguished service and contribution to the strengthening of Uganda–Russia relations. He attributed the strong bilateral ties to the Ambassador’s diplomatic engagement and personal commitment throughout his tenure.
Hon. Oryem also reflected on the long-standing historical relations between Uganda and Russia, noting Russia’s support for liberation movements in Southern Africa and its role in advocating against sanctions affecting Uganda and other East African nations.
Ambassador Semivolos expressed appreciation for the cordial relations and cooperation extended to him during his time in Uganda. He highlighted key achievements during his tenure, including the advancement of bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering cooperation in visa facilitation, health, agriculture, security, and information and communication technology.
He further noted that during his tenure, efforts were made at the international level, including what he described as successfully blocking a resolution at the United Nations Security Council related to sanctions on Uganda’s gold production.
Ambassador Semivolos described his posting to Uganda as “the most consequential” of his diplomatic career, attributing it to the strong working relationship and mutual trust established between the two countries.
Hon. Oryem wished the Ambassador success in his future endeavours and expressed Uganda’s continued commitment to strengthening relations with the Russian Federation.
