Makerere University has recognised Ms Aloyo Sarah and Ms Nakato Dorothy as the top students in the Humanities during its ongoing 76th graduation ceremony, after both attained an outstanding CGPA of 4.93 out of 5.00.
The two graduates earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), emerging as the best in Humanities and among the best overall students of the Class of 2026.
In a congratulatory message shared during the ceremony, the university praised the pair’s academic excellence and resilience. “Among those graduating today are #Mak76thGrad’s best in Humanities and Best Overall students Ms. Sarah Aloyo and Ms. Dorothy Nakato. Hearty congratulations!” the university announced.
According to the citation, Sarah is passionate about education empowerment, sustainability and social impact, while Dorothy distinguished herself through her ability to navigate complex systems, build strong professional relationships and consistently identify cost-saving opportunities.
The Makerere University Convocation also lauded the duo’s achievement, describing them as “top guns in Humanities” who “nailed a Bachelor’s in Procurement & Supply Chain Management with an epic 4.93/5.00 CGPA.”
Self-reliance
Makerere University Chancellor Dr Crispus Kiyonga challenged the Class of 2026 to look beyond traditional employment and identify local opportunities within their communities to drive national prosperity. “To students, have an eye for what opportunities exist in your country and community in which you can engage for prosperity.”
Addressing the competitive economic landscape, the Chancellor honestly noted that while some will secure formal jobs, the surplus of graduates requires a shift toward self-reliance. “Some will have jobs but others won’t because they are few compared to the number of graduates.”
Dr Kiyonga lauded Makerere’s recent breakthroughs in food security and environmental conservation, specifically highlighting the NutriFish project and the protection of medicinal species in Eastern Uganda. “I would like to take this opportunity to deeply thank Makerere for the research done… these will contribute to food security and the conservation of 174 species of medicinal plants.”
Principal lauds resilience
Delivering his message to the graduands, MUBS Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi congratulated the Class of 2026 for their discipline and dedication.
“Your journey has been marked by dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of hard work,” Prof. Muhwezi said. “This achievement reflects not only academic success, but also the resilience, discipline, and personal growth you have demonstrated along the way.”
He reminded the graduates that commencement marks a new beginning. “Graduation is not the end — it is the beginning of greater opportunities and responsibilities. Carry with you the knowledge, values, and confidence you have gained, and use them to shape your communities, industries, and our nation for the better,” he urged.
Celebrating Academic Excellence
The ceremony also celebrated other academic milestones, including the conferment of a Doctor of Philosophy degree upon Dr Agnes Tabala, a lecturer in the Marketing and Management Department at MUBS Jinja Campus.
“Today, Makerere University Business School proudly celebrates the achievements of our graduates at the 76th Graduation Ceremony. This milestone reflects years of dedication, resilience and academic excellence. Congratulations to the Class of 2026,” the MUBS Public Relations Office stated.
In addition, the school congratulated its 27th Guild President, Moses Amanya, upon his graduation, commending his leadership during his tenure.
Across the university, faculties and colleges joined in celebrating PhD graduates and outstanding performers, highlighting Makerere’s continued commitment to research, innovation and academic distinction.
