The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a public warning over the continued circulation of fabricated notices and AI-generated false information aimed at misleading the public.

In a public notice released on Wednesday, UCC said it has observed a growing trend of fake statements designed to mimic its official communications, warning that such content is deliberately crafted to confuse and undermine public trust.

“We have noted with concern the continued circulation of false notices and fabricated statements intended to misinform and disinform the public,” UCC said, adding that the materials are often made to appear authentic but contain distorted or exaggerated claims that fall outside the Commission’s legal mandate.

UCC singled out a TikTok account operating under the name MEDIA_CHANNEL (real_blxz), which it said has repeatedly published content falsely attributed to the Commission and other institutions.

“Of particular concern is a TikTok account operating under the name MEDIA_CHANNEL (real_blxz), which has repeatedly published content falsely attributed to UCC and other entities,” the Commission stated.

The regulator emphasised that it communicates only through its verified and official platforms and urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it.

“UCC communicates only through its verified and official digital platforms and members of the public are therefore urged to verify and confirm before sharing any information purporting to originate from the Commission,” the notice reads.

UCC also issued a stern warning to individuals behind the creation and distribution of fake notices, cautioning that anonymity online does not shield offenders from accountability.

“Anonymity on the internet is but an illusion; you are not ghosts. The law will take its course, and those responsible will be brought to book to answer for their actions,” the Commission warned.

UCC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication, public reassurance and the protection of Uganda’s communications ecosystem, while urging the public to rely solely on official channels for accurate and verified information.
