Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has assured Ugandans that the country’s electoral process will take place in a peaceful and secure environment, saying no individual or group will be allowed to disrupt law and order.

Speaking in remarks shared by the Uganda Police Force on Monday, Byakagaba said police are fully prepared to ensure security before, during and after the elections.

“I’m giving you full assurance that nobody is going to disturb the peace in this country. Elections are going to take place with utmost good environment,” Byakagaba said.

The police chief emphasised that maintaining peace and enforcing the law remains the core mandate of the Uganda Police Force as the country heads into the electoral period.

“Elections are going to take place. No individual or group is going to disturb the peace in this country. Our responsibility is to maintain law and order, ensure peace, and make sure that all stakeholders operate within the law,” he said.

Byakagaba added that police are working with other security agencies to create conditions that allow all Ugandans to participate in the electoral process without fear or intimidation. “We are looking forward to a very peaceful election,” he noted.

His assurance comes amid heightened political activity and public debate ahead of the next general elections, with security agencies repeatedly emphasising their commitment to stability and public safety.
