On Wednesday night, Strictly Soul, in partnership with headline sponsor Johnnie Walker Blonde, celebrated the end of 2025 in unforgettable style at the lush Mestil Hotel Gardens. Revellers began arriving as early as 6 PM, buzzing with anticipation and dressed for everything from dance-floor battles to laid-back lounging, all in the spirit of smooth R&B and timeless soul.

Johnnie Walker Blonde set the tone from the moment guests arrived, greeting everyone with signature cocktails that instantly lifted the mood. The brand’s shimmering golden backdrop quickly became a favourite photo spot, with guests capturing memories as the sun set and the night settled into its rhythm.

The cocktail menu thoughtfully mirrored the evening’s soundtrack, featuring drinks inspired by iconic songs and paying tribute to the night’s DJ, Akio. This was a nod to the deep connection between music and memory that Strictly Soul seeks to represent.

“Strictly Soul allows us to connect with our consumers at the intersection of music, memory, and meaningful connection,” said Christine Kyokunda, Brand Manager of Johnnie Walker. “Johnnie Walker Blonde is a whisky designed for moments like these, vibrant, expressive, and social, where people are not just enjoying a drink but sharing experiences, singing along, and creating memories together. This platform reflects our commitment to celebrating contemporary culture in an authentic, inclusive, and unmistakably progressive way.”

The night truly came alive as the DJs played soul-defining hits from the 1990s to the early 2000s. Voices rose in unison as the crowd sang their hearts out, with some even belting out lyrics from songs older than themselves, unfazed by self-consciousness.

“I come to Strictly Soul because of this,” one reveller said, gesturing to the sing-along crowd. “You get to enjoy the music that raised you without being judged.”

From Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” to Ginuwine’s “Differences,” the playlist spanned generations. Despite the varied ages on the dance floor, the energy remained constant; every chorus met with the same enthusiasm, every beat greeted with equal excitement.

As the tempo built and the night found its groove, the crowd became just as central to the experience as the DJs themselves. What unfolded was less of a party and more of a shared performance: couples leaning into each other as choruses landed, while strangers briefly became choir-mates over lyrics they had carried for years.

Phones were not pulled out to film the DJs but to capture moments of collective release, hands in the air during a hook, laughter between verses, and off-key yet fearless singing that felt deeply liberating.
