Lilongwe, Malawi — Uganda’s She Cranes put up a strong performance at the 2025 Africa Netball Cup, finishing second behind South Africa in a thrilling continental tournament.
South Africa defended their crown with a dominant display, defeating Uganda in the finals. “Relentless, composed, and full of confidence — a true championship display,” the Netball Association of Malawi tweeted, praising the South African Queens for their performance.
Despite the loss, Uganda celebrated a standout performance from Wasswa Disam, who was named Player of the Match for her exceptional display during the final.
“We made it second in the Africa Cup. Merry Christmas, everyone and a happy New Year! Thank you, Malawi Netball, for such a wonderful netball experience,” the She Cranes posted on social media, expressing gratitude to the hosts and fans.
The tournament also saw South Africa’s men claim the Africa Netball Cup 2025 title with a commanding 40-29 victory over Zimbabwe, cementing their status as the “undisputed Kings of African Netball.”
Malawi, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the women’s tournament, losing 44-48 to Zimbabwe in the third-place playoff. “It was a close game… we will come back stronger!!” the Malawi Netball Association said, reflecting optimism for future competitions.
The 2025 Africa Netball Cup, hosted in Lilongwe, highlighted the growing competitiveness of African netball and showcased talents like Wasswa Disam, Kamogelo Maseko — named Player of the Match in the men’s finals — and other rising stars from across the continent.
