Lilongwe – Malawi Airlines has announced that it will launch a new Lilongwe–Entebbe route on 15 December 2025, operating four flights a week—a move expected to significantly strengthen trade, connectivity, and bilateral relations between Uganda and Malawi.
The confirmation was made during a meeting held on 20 November 2025 between Uganda’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Ambassador (Rtd) Col. Fred Mwesigye, and Malawi Airlines CEO Mr Solomon Bekele Debay at the airline’s headquarters in Lilongwe.
Ambassador Mwesigye was accompanied by Ms Doreen Atwiine, Financial Attaché at the High Commission; Rev. Fr. David Nuwagaba, Chairperson of the Ugandan Community in Malawi; and Mr Martin Isyagi. The Malawi Airlines team included Mr Charles Ng’ambi, Head of Commercial, and Ms Only Taulo, Marketing Officer.

Mr Debay thanked the Government of Uganda for its cooperation in securing regulatory approvals, saying the new route aligns with Malawi Airlines’ broader regional expansion strategy. He noted that the service will benefit both the Ugandan community living in Malawi and Malawians working or doing business in Uganda.
Ambassador Mwesigye welcomed the development, describing the airline’s entry into Uganda as “extremely exciting.” “Part of my mandate is to promote business between our two nations and strengthen bilateral ties,” he said. “Increased connectivity will ultimately foster integration and economic growth.”
The introduction of the Lilongwe–Entebbe service marks a key milestone in ongoing efforts to deepen people-to-people links, boost tourism, and expand commercial opportunities between the two countries.
