The announcement was made following a bilateral meeting between Mr Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, and Mr Gi-Hyun Kim, Vice President of the International Cooperation Group at KITA, held on 3rd November 2025 at the Trade Tower Building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

During the meeting, Mr Bagiire commended the cordial relations between Uganda and the Republic of Korea and underscored the importance of technology transfer and increased investment from Korea to Uganda. He highlighted key priority sectors for cooperation, including Agro-industrialisation, Tourism, Mineral Development, and Science, Technology, and Innovation (ATMS).

Mr Gi-Hyun Kim welcomed Uganda’s proposal to convene the Uganda–Korea Investment Meeting and pledged KITA’s full collaboration in organising the event.

KITA officials emphasised the need for adequate preparation by the Ugandan business community to effectively engage with Korean enterprises and attract sustainable investments. They also encouraged the Government of Uganda to consider establishing a resident Embassy in Korea to further boost investor confidence and deepen bilateral engagement.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by H.E. Ms Tophace Kaahwa, Uganda’s non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr Nurh Byarufu, Minister-Counsellor, and Ms Evelyn Ngalonsa, Counsellor.
