The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has initiated discussions with the Danish Embassy in Uganda to explore areas of strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening data systems that support climate action and sustainable development.
The talks were held at the UBOS headquarters, where the Executive Director, Dr Chris N. Mukiza, hosted a delegation from the Danish Embassy led by Mr Jacob Kahl Jepsen, the Counsellor and Team Leader for Team Green Economy, Trade and Climate.
The meeting centred on potential areas of cooperation, with a particular emphasis on developing climate change statistics and health statistics that can inform evidence-based policy and enhance Uganda’s capacity to track progress in climate adaptation and resilience.

In his remarks, Dr Mukiza welcomed the proposed partnership and commended Denmark for its continued support of Uganda’s development agenda. He encouraged the delegation to develop concrete thematic areas that will guide the next phase of engagement with the UBOS technical team, scheduled for 8th–12th December 2025.
“We welcome this collaboration with the Danish Embassy, especially in climate-smart statistics, which are increasingly essential for planning and sustainable development,” Dr Mukiza said. “Our goal is to strengthen data production and use so that policy decisions are backed by reliable evidence.”
On his part, Mr Jepsen expressed appreciation to UBOS for its openness and willingness to collaborate, noting that Denmark is committed to promoting data-driven approaches in climate and environmental governance.

“Denmark values partnerships that promote evidence-based solutions. We see great potential in working with UBOS to strengthen statistical systems that support climate action and sustainable growth,” Mr Jepsen said.
Both sides agreed that enhanced cooperation in data collection, analysis, and dissemination will play a critical role in addressing cross-cutting challenges such as climate change, health risks, and sustainable resource management.
The meeting marks a significant step toward a long-term partnership between UBOS and the Danish Embassy, aimed at integrating climate-smart statistics into national planning and supporting Uganda’s progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
