Police are hunting for unknown criminals who shot and killed two police officers in Kawempe on Thursday night.

According to a statement issued by Police spokesperson, SP Emilian Kayima, the two officers who were attached to Katwe police station were killed shortly after 8pm on Thursday in Kiza zone, Kawempe division in Kampala.

The officers have been identified as No. 53118 PC Habiyaremye Vincent and No. 60403 PC Otim Ambrose. They are said to have been trailed by the assailants, shot dead and their two rifles taken.

“Last night, a couple of minutes after 8pm, armed criminals that are yet to be apprehended trailed and shot dead two police officers, from Katwe police division, killing them instantly and two of their guns taken by the criminals,” Kayima said in a statement.

A reliable source has told us the policemen were shot at construction company Spencon facilities on Spencon street near premises of another construction firm, Sogea.

Their bodies have been taken to Mulago for postmortem.

“The police have embarked on hunting for the criminals with a view of bringing them to justice,” the statement added.
