The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) will today, Saturday, September 27, 2025, hold a Kampala Car Free Day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The event, held to promote active mobility and better air quality, will involve the closure of several roads and the implementation of traffic diversions.
Road Closures and Diversions
To facilitate the event, motorised traffic on Nile Avenue will be diverted at Statistics House.
Additionally, vehicles will not be permitted to enter the car-free corridor at the following junctions: Kampala Road and Shimoni Road, Ternan Avenue, Kampala Road and Speke Road, Buganda Road and Kyaggwe Road, and City Square.
Alternative Routes
Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes: Yusuf Lule Road, Parliament Avenue, and Kampala Road.
The KCCA is encouraging all residents and visitors to participate in the event and join in the effort to make Kampala a more livable city. The day will offer a unique opportunity for people to reclaim the streets for walking and cycling, free from the usual traffic congestion and noise pollution.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by KCCA to promote sustainable urban transport and improve public health. The event is a chance to showcase the benefits of non-motorised transport and inspire residents to adopt more active lifestyles.
“Let’s work together to make our city more liveable,” said the authority in a statement.
