Lweza, Wakiso District — The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has officially unveiled a new venue in Lweza-Lubowa, Wakiso District, for the 2026 presidential nominations and as the national tally centre for announcing election results.

This is where the commission is constructing its new head offices ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the new headquarters will transform how elections are managed in Uganda.

“This facility is designed to host nominations, coordinate election activities, and provide a centralized tally center for the declaration of presidential results,” Justice Byabakama stated during the unveiling ceremony.

Presidential nominations will now be held on 23rd and 24th September 2025, while campaigns will commence on 29th September 2025 and run until 12th January 2026. This is a change from the earlier campaign start date of October 4.

Parliamentary nominations, meanwhile, have been rescheduled to 22nd and 23rd October 2025, adjusted to avoid clashing with Uganda’s hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-term Review Conference on 15th–16th October 2025.

Justice Byabakama further announced strict guidelines for the nomination period. “Only two vehicles and a maximum of 19 people will be allowed at the new EC headquarters during presidential nominations,” he explained, noting that the measures aim to ensure security and order.

At the same event, Chief Guest Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, urged Ugandans to maintain calm and unity throughout the electoral process.

“Peace is the cornerstone and turnkey towards the development the country is aiming for. As we go into the electoral process, let us remain observant of peace and security,” Gen. Wamala appealed.

The Electoral Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent, orderly, and credible elections while calling on all stakeholders—including government institutions, security agencies, political actors, and citizens—to respect the updated timelines and work together for a peaceful electoral season.
