Uganda and Indonesia have officially signed a Bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to boost tourism, trade and investment between the two nations.
The signing took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, during a high-level Uganda–Indonesia Business Forum focused on building cross-sectoral partnerships, with tourism taking centre stage.
The Ugandan delegation was led by Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, Uganda’s State Minister for Trade, Dr Betty Bigombe, Uganda’s Ambassador to Malaysia and accredited to ASEAN.
The Indonesian delegation was led by Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, Vice Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, and Dr Rose Rusmiati, President of ASITA – the umbrella body for Indonesia’s Tourism Private Sector.
Representing the Ugandan tourism private sector was UTA Vice President Isa Kato, who signed the MOU on behalf of UTA and Uganda.
Kato noted that Uganda is safe, stable, and open for tourism. “We warmly welcome our Indonesian brothers and sisters to explore the Pearl of Africa.”
“Through UTA, you are guaranteed a professional, licensed and trusted tour operator, accommodation providers, guides and a unique travel experience,” said who represented the UTA President, Yogi Biriggwa.
The partnership directly aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040, aiming to generate $50 billion in tourism receipts through strategic international collaborations, as outlined in the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV).
With Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spearheading economic and tourism diplomacy, the MOU marked the beginning of stronger bilateral efforts in:- Joint Tour Packaging & Marketing, Hospitality Investment, Cultural exchange, Business-to-Business linkages between Uganda and Indonesian tour operators.
