Hoima — Kitara Football Club, fondly known as The Royals, has announced the resignation of President Deo Kasozi, marking the end of a transformative era that saw the club rise from the FUFA Big League to the continental stage.

Kasozi, who was elected in July 2022, leaves behind a legacy etched in gold. In just three seasons, he led Kitara to its first-ever FUFA Big League title in 2022/23, lifted the prestigious Stanbic Uganda Cup in 2024, and guided the team to its CAF Confederation Cup debut, a historic first for the Hoima-based club.

During his tenure, Kitara also posted impressive finishes in the Uganda Premier League, securing fourth and fifth place in consecutive seasons and earning victories against some of the country’s biggest football giants.

“It has been an incredible journey. As a community club, we have achieved what no other has in such a short time,” said Kasozi in his farewell message. “I’m proud to have led the most successful three years in the history of Kitara Football Club.”

Beyond trophies, Kasozi’s vision helped bring the club’s home ground, Royal Park, to life, cultivated a passionate fanbase, and nurtured talent such as Denis Omedi, whose breakout performances gained attention beyond Uganda’s borders.

Gilbert Nyaika takes over in an interim role

Following his voluntary resignation to pursue a private venture, the club’s Vice President for Administration, Mr Gilbert Nyaika, has been appointed interim President, effective immediately.

Kitara FC expressed gratitude to Kasozi, stating, “From the depths of the FUFA Big League to the dazzling lights of the continent, he led with vision and courage. The Royals bow in gratitude.”

As the club looks ahead to a new chapter under Nyaika’s interim leadership, fans and players alike are celebrating a remarkable period that redefined Kitara Football Club and cemented its place among Uganda’s football elite.
