Iganga — His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, has been officially installed as the Chancellor of Lubega Institute of Science and Health Professionals in Iganga District.

The momentous event coincided with the 5th Graduation Ceremony of the institute and was graced by religious leaders, government officials, and education stakeholders from across the country.

The ceremony was marked by pomp and a deep sense of pride as the Kyabazinga took up his new role, symbolising a bridge between cultural leadership and academic progress. In his inaugural address as Chancellor, His Majesty commended the institute’s executive team, management, and partners for their tireless commitment to academic excellence and community transformation.

He expressed optimism about the anticipated elevation of the institute into a full-fledged university, describing it as “a testament to your dedication to academic advancement and professional capacity building.”

“We already see tangible outcomes—such as the scholarships awarded to students, some of whom are graduating today. These are real-life examples of how your generosity is shaping futures and uplifting communities,” said the Kyabazinga.

He extended appreciation to the Government of Uganda and its affiliated bodies—including the Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, UBTEB, and the National Council for Higher Education—for their technical guidance and regulatory support, which have enabled the institute to grow sustainably.

Addressing the graduating class, His Majesty urged them to embody professionalism, compassion, and community spirit in their careers. Quoting Sir William Osler, he reminded them that “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease,” encouraging them to approach healthcare with empathy and integrity.

“I commission you today—not just as professionals—but as community mobilizers,” he declared. “Inspire the youth in your homes and communities to stay in school and pursue dreams that add value to their lives.”

The event was attended by prominent religious leaders, including the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Muhammad Wasswa, and other dignitaries.

The Lubega Institute of Science and Health Professionals has, over the past five years, trained hundreds of nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals who are now contributing to Uganda’s healthcare system.
