The High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of India, H.E. Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, is leading a delegation of prominent Indian tour operators on a high-profile familiarisation (FAM) trip to Uganda, taking place from May 29 to June 7, 2025.

The initiative is part of Uganda’s growing efforts to tap into India’s rapidly expanding outbound travel market, following the country’s trailblazing debut at major tourism trade shows earlier this year.

Uganda made its first appearance at both the Outbound Travel Market (OTM) in Mumbai and the South Asia Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) in New Delhi—two of South Asia’s largest travel and tourism exhibitions.

This FAM trip is a strategic milestone in the mission to position Uganda as a top destination for Indian travellers. It will showcase the diverse, rich, and unique experiences Uganda has to offer—from wildlife safaris and adventure tourism to cultural heritage and religious tourism.

The delegation includes seasoned Indian tour agents and operators, many of whom represent top-tier agencies in the Indian leisure travel and luxury tourism segments.

Over the ten-day visit, they will tour Uganda’s iconic attractions, including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, the Source of the Nile, and Kampala’s vibrant urban offerings.

The trip underscores Uganda’s broader ambition to significantly scale up its tourism sector as a key driver of economic growth. The High Commission is championing tourism as a pillar in Uganda’s economic transformation strategy, aimed at expanding the country’s GDP from USD 50 billion to USD 500 billion by 2040.

India’s outbound travel market is now among the fastest-growing globally. According to a recent Expedia report, India is projected to reach 19.4 million leisure departures and spend over USD 410 billion on international travel by 2030, presenting a vast opportunity for Uganda.

This FAM trip is not only about scenic beauty—it’s about business through building partnerships, increasing awareness, and cultivating ambassadors who will tell the Uganda story to millions of potential Indian travellers.

The trip has been organised in close coordination with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and other key stakeholders in Uganda’s travel and hospitality sectors. It includes B2B sessions, site visits, and cultural exchanges aimed at giving Indian operators an immersive experience of the Pearl of Africa.
