Police in Kisoro have arrested the LC3 Chairperson for Busanza sub county in Kisoro district, Didas Muntuki after he allegedly mobilized the public to destroy a bridge.
Police alleges that on January 17 this year, Muntuki mobilized the community and together, they destroyed Busanza bridge. This followed the several unsuccessful attempts to get the attention of authorities in Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to have the damaged bridge repaired.
Elly Matte, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson said that Didas Muntuki was arrested on Friday and is being held at Kisoro Police station.
“He will be charged with inciting violence and causing malicious damage to property,” Matte said.
“As a local leader, he is supposed to have bridged the gap between the people and UNRA to see how the problem is solved amicably but not to mobilize them for destruction,” the Kigezi region Police spokesperson added.
He appealed to the public to desist from unlawlesness.
