Despite a rainy Sunday morning, Lubiri, Mengo, was buzzing with energy, as thousands of runners took part in the 12th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run.
I&M Bank, the official bank partner of the Kabaka Birthday also fielded a team of runners, as a commitment to support communities, health, unity, and cultural heritage.
The event was flagged off by the Kabaka, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, accompanied by the Katikkiro- Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, and other Kingdom officials.
In his message, delivered by the Katikkiro, the Kabaka highlighted that HIV/AIDS remains one of the biggest challenges facing the nation and the world.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, informed, and united in combating the spread of the virus.
This year’s edition marks Kabaka Mutebi’s 70th birthday that is slated for next Sunday- April 13th.
Themed ‘Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030,’ this year’s edition aimed at emphasizing the importance of men’s involvement in health initiatives.
I&M Bank CEO- Robin Bairstow, applauded the power of people coming together, and the bold steps the run has taken towards fighting HIV/AIDS and building a healthier society.
“We are extremely proud to be part of this cause. It’s more than just a run, it’s a movement for change. When we come together, we become stronger, and together we can fight this challenge head-on,” he said.
Adding, “Let’s continue to stand united in this fight against HIV/AIDS, and let this day be a reminder that together, we can create lasting change.”
Launched in 2014, the run focuses on community and charity, uniting people to support local causes and contribute to meaningful social impact.
Annette Nakiyaga, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank, re-emphasized the bank’s commitment towards supporting causes that improve communities.
“The Kabaka Birthday Run has become a wonderful tradition that brings all of us together with a common goal—working towards a healthier Uganda. The goal to eliminate HIV/AIDS by 2030 is something we fully believe in, and we are happy to be part of this journey towards a healthier and stronger community,” she said.
Participants also enjoyed the routes that showcased some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Mengo Palace, Kabaka’s Lake, Masengere House, Namirembe Cathedral, Makerere University, the Uganda Museum, Uganda Golf Course, Gaddafi Mosque, and the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, among others.
The event was capped off with lively entertainment from local performers, who kept the crowd energized and added a festive touch to the day’s celebrations.
