The Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Maj Gen David Mugisha has emphasised the critical role of continuous training in building a modern and capable military force.

Speaking at the pass-out ceremony for 98 officers—including 14 female graduates—who completed a six-month Sub-Unit Commanders Course at the Airborne Training School-Amilcar Cabral (ATSAC) in Nakasongola, Maj Gen Mugisha echoed the words of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni:

“Training is the backbone of a military. Without training, you can never have a competent force. A modern army is built on ideology, discipline, and skills.”

He reaffirmed the President’s vision of transforming training institutions like ATSAC into centres of excellence, equipping personnel with intellectual prowess, physical endurance, and leadership capabilities.

Maj. Gen. Mugisha also commended Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, for his leadership in strengthening the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

He highlighted Gen Muhoozi’s unwavering commitment to soldiering, courage, transparency, and selfless service, all reinforced through rigorous training.

Addressing the newly trained officers, Maj. Gen. Mugisha urged them to lead with integrity and uphold the core values instilled during their training. He warned against subversive behaviours such as rumormongering, sectarianism, and corruption.

Lt. Col. Micki Paul Lokut, the Director of Training and Doctrine at SFC, described the Sub-Unit Commanders Course as essential for preparing young officers for specialized operations within the Special Forces.

ATSAC Commandant Maj Richard Mukwaya praised the graduates for their resilience and teamwork, stating: “This course was designed to challenge and expand your tactical and leadership skills.”

Outstanding Performers

Several officers were recognized for exceptional performance: 2Lt. Matthew Ikondere – Best Overall, Lt. Gordon Andama – Best in Leadership, 2Lt. Vivina Praise Asasira – Best Female, Lt. Ibrahim Luyimbazi – Best in Field and 2Lt. Raymond Tumusiime – Best in Academics.

The pass-out ceremony was graced by several high-ranking officials, including the Chairman LCV Nakasongola, Retired Lt Sam Kigula, Nakasongola Cantonment Commander Col David Mugisha, brigade commanders, directors, and commanding officers.
