The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced that the Senior Five (S5) selection will take place on February 20 and 21, 2025.
The dates were revealed by the Minister for Education and Sports, Hon Janet Museveni, during the release of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results at State Lodge, Nakasero in Kampala.
According to the minister, the 2024 cohort, which includes candidates who sat the UCE under the old curriculum, will not be left out during the selection process. This is to ensure a smooth transition for all learners qualifying for post-UCE placement.
“The first-term reporting date for Senior Five in 2025 will be March 3,” she said, further clarifying the academic calendar.
In her address, the Minister praised the resilience of the UCE candidates, emphasising their pioneering role as the last cohort to sit exams under the old curriculum and the first to be assessed under the Competency-Based curriculum.

“This curriculum is not just about passing exams; it aims to develop the whole individual,” she remarked, urging students to embrace cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills that go beyond mere academic knowledge.
She also highlighted the importance of continuous assessment, which she believes gives a more accurate reflection of students’ progress. She stressed the need for schools to maintain integrity during assessments and ensure that students’ privacy is respected when sharing results.
As the education system undergoes these significant changes, the minister expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of the new curriculum, assuring that the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will continue to uphold high standards in assessment and ensure fairness and credibility.
“We remain committed to an education system that truly prepares learners for the future,” she concluded, calling on all involved to support the development of a generation that can think, act, and lead.
