President Museveni has signed the National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024 into law.
The President assented to the bill on 20th December 2024, according to the Presidential Press Unit (PPU).
“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) wishes to inform the public that His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, has signed the National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024, into law,” reads the statement issued on Monday, December 23, 2024.
In November this year, the Parliament of Uganda passed the National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024 integrating the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) into the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).
The act to amend the National Coffee Act 2021, Act 17 of 2021, aimed to dissolve the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) and transfer its functions to the mother Ministry.
The passing of the bill and its subsequent assent by the president seals the abolishing of UCDA whose functions will now be taken over by the Ministry of Agriculture.
