The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has advised members and supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to subscribe to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Through his X account, Muhoozi said nothing stops PLU members who want to contest for parliament, since PLU is a civic organisation not a political party.
“On PLU members who want to contest for parliament, nothing is stopping you from doing that. PLU is a civic organisation not a political party. You are absolutely free to contest. For now I advise you to subscribe to NRM. That’s the political party that is most closely aligned to our values,”
Early this year, different groups that supported General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for Presidency regrouped and formed PLU, a civic organization dedicated to the principles of independence, sovereignty, and development of Uganda, with Kainerugaba as it’s Supreme Chairman.
Some members of the group were pushing for Kainerugaba to stand as a presidential candidate in the coming 2026 elections. However, in a series posts, the General revealed that he will not be contesting in the coming elections, drumming support for his father, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first. So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” said Muhoozi in the wee hours of September 21.
He added, “All my millions of supporters. All the supporters of PLU. We shall all of us, as one man and without exception support President Museveni in 2026. The future belongs to our mighty God alone, and we shall triumph in His name.”
