For thrill-seekers and adventure lovers, the newly launched “Zip the Nile” offers an unparalleled adrenaline rush as you soar across the world’s longest river, the Nile.
Located at the scenic LivingWaters Resort in Njeru, Buikwe district, this zip line provides an unforgettable experience as you glide 30 meters above the river, surrounded by breathtaking views of lush vegetation and the shimmering waters below.
Founded by Dr. Joseph Okia and Joanne Okia, “Zip the Nile” is more than just a ride; it’s an adventure. With a combined distance of 620 meters split across two twin lines, this facility holds the title of East Africa’s longest zip line.
Jonathan Okia, the manager, proudly notes, “We have the longest zipline in Uganda, with the first span measuring 300 meters and the second, 320 meters.”
The thrill of the ride is complemented by stringent safety measures that adhere to globally accepted standards, with imported equipment from Europe and a team of well-trained instructors ensuring both an exhilarating and secure experience.
This adventure isn’t just for the bravest adults—children as young as five can take part, provided they meet the weight requirements.
At a cost of Ushs 70,000, visitors from all walks of life are invited to embrace the thrill. On average, the facility hosts 20 to 30 guests daily, all eager to experience this unique perspective of the Nile.
Beyond the zip line, Dr. Joseph Okia highlights that the resort offers a range of activities including nature walks, hikes, and accommodation, with ambitious plans to add a swimming pool and a five-star conference facility.
“All these developments require significant investment,” Okia notes, urging the government to support such ventures with accessible funding.
The facility was officially commissioned by State Minister for Tourism, Martin Mugarra, who hailed it as a vital addition to the region’s adventure tourism portfolio.
Mugarra emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the Source of the Nile into a world-class destination noting that such initiatives are crucial for promoting domestic tourism.
“This facility aligns perfectly with the government’s efforts to diversify Uganda’s tourism offering, moving beyond traditional wildlife attractions to include a broader range of adventure activities,” Mugarra said.
He also encouraged the proprietors to continue expanding their offerings, suggesting the development of additional water-based activities such as water sliding, bungee jumping, and white-water rafting. “With the right investments, this area has the potential to become a hub for usadventure tourism in Uganda,” he added.
