The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, chaired the inaugural meeting of the steering committee for the General Aronda Nyakairima Memorial Lecture at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe.

The General Aronda Nyakairima Memorial Lecture is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 11. It will coincide with the inaugural Kampala International Defence Exhibition (KIDE).

General Aronda, who passed away in 2015, is remembered for his significant contributions to the professionalisation of the UPDF through various reforms during his tenure as CDF from 2003 to 2013. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The meeting was also attended by senior Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers, including Lt Gen James Mugira, CEO of the National Enterprise Corporation; Maj Gen BD Mugisha, SFC Commander; Maj Gen James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff; and Maj Gen Henry Masiko, Joint Staff – Political Commissariat, among other senior UPDF officers.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Mrs. Rosettie Byengoma, also attended the meeting.
