He identified the deceased as Nanfuka Gertrude, 90 years a resident of Kanyogoga- Kawanda Central zone Nabweru Division Wakiso District who was burnt beyond recognition in her place of residence.

Nanfuka’s 12-year granddaughter who has been staying with her says that the deceased asked her to sleep in the living room something that was unusual, as it hadn’t happened before.

Nanfuka then locked herself in the bedroom, and they both slept off. However, when the child woke up, her grandmother’s room was on fire.

She was able to safely get out of the house and made an alarm which attracted the neighbours who helped extinguish the fire, but unfortunately Nanfuka was already dead.

The fire mostly affected Nanfuka’s bedroom.

The deceased’s body has been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago.

Owoyesigyire said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
