Seven bars in Kololo, a Kampala suburb known to be a residential area for the affluent, have been sued by five residents of the area including Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of Oxfam International, for noise pollution.
Some of the bars dragged to court include Casablanca Bar and Restaurant, Atmosphere Bar and Lounge, H2O Bar and Lounge, Big Mikes bar, Bubbles O’Learys, and Wave Lounge.
A suit filed at the Kampala High Court states that the the bars have huge screens and floodlights which reflect bright light in the complainants’ homes.
The complainants, through Signum Advocates, want the bars to be restrained from hosting music concerts and late night parties which disrupt their peace.
The case is set to be ruled upon on February 26.
