Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — The High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in Tanzania hosted a colourful celebration to mark Uganda’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity between the two neighboring nations.
Held at the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, the event brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, Ugandans in the diaspora, and friends of Uganda to commemorate more than six decades of freedom, unity, and progress.
Representing the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Cosato Chumi, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, congratulated Uganda on its Independence milestone and commended the strong and growing relations between the two nations.

“Tanzania and Uganda continue to build upon their historic partnership through practical cooperation guided by the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC). This collaboration remains a model of how neighbouring nations can work together for shared prosperity,” said Hon. Chumi.
Established in 2017, the JPC provides a framework for cooperation in key sectors such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and security, strengthening the two countries’ shared commitment to regional integration and sustainable development.
Also in attendance was H.E. Veronica Nduva, Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), who joined other dignitaries in celebrating the deep-rooted partnership between Uganda and Tanzania and the broader goal of regional integration within the East African Community.

In his remarks, H.E. Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to Tanzania, highlighted the historical and strategic ties between the two nations, founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and cooperation.
“Uganda’s 63rd Independence Anniversary reminds us of the deep blood ties and historic cooperation between our two nations. Tanzania has remained a steadfast partner to Uganda in political, economic, and social spheres,” Ambassador Mwesigye stated.
He expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Tanzania for their continued partnership in advancing peace, trade, and regional development, emphasising that both nations remain committed to working together for the prosperity of their citizens and the entire East African region.

The evening’s celebration showcased Uganda’s rich cultural and tourism heritage, featuring vibrant traditional music and dance, as well as an exquisite display of Ugandan cuisine — including Matooke, Kalo, Malakwang, and Luwombo. Guests enjoyed a true taste of Uganda’s warmth and diversity, capturing the spirit of the “Pearl of Africa.”
The event underscored the strong and growing partnership between Uganda and Tanzania — one anchored in peace, unity, and shared aspirations for sustainable growth and regional prosperity.
