Police in Kabale Municipality have Wednesday morning arrested over 50 people in a clean-up operation in the lead to the Easter festivities.
The arrests follow persistent thuggery and a spike in criminal activities within Kabale municipality.
A total of 57 people were picked up from what police say was an “intelligence led operation” in Kigongi, an outskirt of Kabale town. Thirty eight (38) of these were men along with 19 women.
The Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, Elly Matte in a statement issued on Wednesday said the operation was a mop up for the Easter season.
“The operation happened this morning at about 2am. People arrested could not account for their movements and were without relevant personal documents for their identity,” Matte said.
He said that those arrested will be screened and those found to be innocent will be cleared. Those found to be wrong elements will be dealt with accordingly, he added.
He noted that similar operations will continue.
“I want to warn our people to be extra carefully. They should not involve themselves in criminal activities. Otherwise, the long arm of the law will get them,” Matte warned.
