Three other suspected robbers are said to be on the run.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the robbers broke into the premises of the CMB warehouse after midnight on Sunday. They had two vehicles, one of them Reg No UAE 985N, which had been loaded with stolen electrical appliances such as Flat Screen TVs, iron boxes and blenders, by the time Police swung in.

Those killed in the heist have been identified as Wanika Chris, a resident of Kigaga Zone in Makindye Division and Kayiza Edrisa, a boda boda rider from Natete. The other two are yet to be identified, ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Owoyesigyire said that Police got information that a group of people suspected to be armed were about to raid and rob the warehouse.

“We responded working with the guards that were at the premises. Four of these people, suspected robbers, were put out of action, three of them are currently on the run,” he said while addressing reporters at Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday.

“The hunt is still on for the remaining three”.

Police also recovered from the scene exhibits including breaking implements such as knives and pangas believed to have been used in the break-in.

In a related incident, a robbery in Kampala, Police said four armed people fleeced two Mobile Money operators of money amounting to Shs 6m on Saturday. The victims said the four robbers were classes in khaki attire akin to the Police uniform.

The incident happened in Kyebando at round 8pm and the case was filed at Nansana Police Station.

However, Owoyesigyire clarified that these were not Police officers.

“We want to urge the public especially Mobile Money operators to remain vigilant and stop operating in the wee hours of the night. The hunt is still on for these people who were dressed in khaki and armed,” he said.

The two incidents come two weeks after one nerson suspected to have been involved in a robbery was shot and killed in Mutungo, Nakawa Division, near Kampala as he fled from a scene of crime.

The deceased was in company of two others when they attacked two residents of Mutungo at around 3am.

An alarm raised by the neighborhors attracted a security guard who was guarding a nearby residence who shot and killed one of the suspected robbers dead.

On the same night, Police arrested three thieves who were found unscrewing the Air Conditioning system at EAGEN House along Kampala Road.
