The 3rd Conference on Peace and Development for the Horn of Africa officially opened today at the Four Points Hotel, Kampala, bringing together delegates from across the region and the international community to advance dialogue, cooperation, and sustainable solutions for peace.
The conference, an initiative of the People’s Republic of China, has convened representatives from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.

Also in attendance are delegates from key multilateral organizations including the United Nations, Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), and the East African Community (EAC).
The conference was formally opened by Hon. John Mulimba, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs), who welcomed delegates and expressed appreciation to the Government of China for its enduring partnership with Africa in promoting peace and development.

“China’s Global Security Initiative has meaningfully contributed to the global discourse on collective security,” Hon. Mulimba said. “We commend China’s respect for national sovereignty and its commitment to dialogue as central tenets in achieving lasting peace.”
