They include 554 (54%) female and 470 (46%) males. A total of 32 students will graduate with First Class Degrees at ceremony scheduled for this Friday July 6 at UCU main campus in Mukono.
The three doctoral students include the first PhD graduand in the history of UCU; Maturu Milly Erema who will graduate with a Doctoral of Philosophy. Two other students; David Goobi Kataate and Selugo James will graduate with Doctoral of Ministry.
Dr. Benon Musinguzi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs said the doctoral graduates means increased ability by the university to offer higher education, “we have been steadily growing in our academic offerings. Several other PhDs are in the pipeline.”
Unfortunately some two students among thosw who were set to graduate have since passed on. The deceased students who will graduate posthumously had finished their final examinations at the time of their death.
They are; Julius Akugizibwe (Bachelor of Education) and Victoria Nakimuli (Bachelor of Laws.) Nakimuli breathed her last on April 30, 2018 while Akugizibwe died in an accident in January 2018 shortly after finishing his final examinations.
The graduands also include the first cohort of Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance which will have 13 students graduate. They include the former Guild President Prisca Amongin.
Other notable graduands include lawyer and former Presidential Advisor Hussein Kashillingi Rugaba who will be graduating with a Master of Laws in Oil and Gas and Aber Lillian, the former Deputy Guild President at Makerere University. She will graduate with a Master of Business Administration Oil and Gas Management.
The guest of honour for the graduation is Prof. Ezra Suruma, the Chancellor Makerere University and former Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The graduation ceremony will start at 8:00 a.m
Transcripts ready
In line with the UCU practice, graduands will walk away with their transcripts on graduation day to facilitate their quicker absorption in the job market.
This is the third out of the planned seven graduation ceremonies across UCU Campuses and Constituent Colleges this year.
They comprise of three graduation ceremonies at the UCU Main Campus in Mukono, two graduation ceremonies at UCU Mbale University College, and two graduation ceremonies at Bishop Barham University College, (BBUC, Kabale). Students at UCU Kampala Campus and UCU Arua Campus graduate from the Main Campus in Mukono.
