Uganda’s oldest University, Makerere will later this month graduate over 13,000 students in various disciplines.

This was revealed Thursday by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, while addressing reporters at Makerere University.

Prof Nawangwe said that a total of 13,299 students will be graduating with various degrees which include PhDs, Postgraduate diplomas, Masters, and Diplomas out of whom only 368 students scored first class honours.

He revealed that the best performing students in arts are Atwiine Aquilinous 4.92 CGPA and Ekyasimire Fortunate 4.92 CGPA both of Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

Galiwango Kasozi Steven with a 4.84 CGPA offering Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology emerged best in sciences.

The three-day graduation ceremony will take place from January 15 to 18 at the main campus near Wandegeya. For the third year in a row, graduates will receive their transcripts not later than the day of graduation as opposed to what the practice was previously.

In 2017, the university started providing transcripts to students before and on graduation days and according to Prof Nawangwe, the set targets were achieved and the process is set to be improved and continued for the following graduations.

On Thursday, the Vice Chancellor also cautioned Makerere University staff against utterances about the institution, saying if sanity is to prevail, communications of that kind should be done upon authorization by the top Management.

“There must be sanity within the University. No member of staff, not even myself can go out to make statements about the university without authorization. It endangers the image of the university. Everybody must abide by the regulations of the University,” Nawangwe explained.

On December 21, the University released the timeline for graduation as shown below;
